OCT SCAN

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY FOR PROACTIVE EYECARE

At James Bryan Opticians we invest in the latest optical technology to help us provide the best care for your eyes.

An OCT scan (also known as optical coherence tomography) involves a hospital quality machine that quickly and easily takes an advanced image of your retina to provide an in-depth picture of the health of your eyes.

WHAT IS AN OCT SCAN?

Similar to ultrasound, OCT uses light rather than sound waves to illustrate the different layers that make up the back of the eye. An OCT captures a digital photograph of the surface of the eye at the same time and this can be cross-referenced with any areas of concern.

The major benefit of this state of the art machine is that it allows our optometrist to see both the back of your eye, and a three-dimensional image to look beneath the surface of the regular retinal image. This means we can identify the exact state and location of a particular eye condition.

BENEFITS OF AN OCT

OCT scans can help detect sight threatening conditions earlier.

Many diseases such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and retinal detachment are often already advanced before they are detected and treatment started.

An OCT scan is able to show us changes deep within the eye, therefore catching them early with potentially sight saving results.

The scan is quick, painless and non-invasive and will give you greater peace of mind that your eyes are healthy.
